Filters

In this section you determine, which facets of your product are used for the navigation (no search for a term) or filtering after the search – also known as After Search Navigation.

Depending on how the search system is integrated, these configuration settings may have no or just little effect on your shop but will merely alter the response of the backend search system. But if your integrations uses the FACT-Finder specifications, you can control  the behaviour of filters and navigation very precisely through the settings.

Add Filter (1)

Click Add FIlter to create a new filter group. A popup opens, prompting you for a name and a source field.

Edit Filter (2)

Click the pencil icon to open the facets dialogue. The Facets module allows you to filter a search result using specific attributes or properties (such as category or colour) and thus reach the desired subset of products quickly. The settings for each field let you specify which field content should be used as a filter group and how the filter should respond. Are you dealing with a facet which is only used for one of both areas, you will only get one configuration option.

Select a facet both for navigation and filtering to have both configuration variants displayed.

If you want to make identical configurations for Search and Navigation, just click on Link (1) at the top to link them up. Now select the primary configuration (Search or Navigation). Any changes made to this configuration will be automatically applied to the respective other.

In order not to overload the visitor with a large number of filter options right from the beginning, it is possible to create dependencies of groups, so that a group is only displayed after a specific preselection has been made. The drop-down box (2) shows all of the fields for which a group already exists. If a dependency has been created, the customer must first create a filter by the corresponding field before the group is displayed.

In some cases you may want to put several fields into one group (such as Category and Sub-category). To do this, simply enter the same group name and set the dependencies accordingly.

If your data has multiple attribute fields and is configured correctly in the advanced options (content Multiple attribute; see Advanced Options), this row can be used to set the configuration for all groups based on this field. Multi attribute fields are colour-coded. If, in contrast, you want to add different settings to specific attributes in this field, you must create a separate group using the Add Filter link and enter the corresponding attribute name. FACT-Finder will then inform you, that a group uses the datatype text. If a numeric filter is necessary, you must first create a virtual field.

For detailed descriptions, please refer to the info text on the configurations page.

Multi-select Filter

A new feature released with FACT-Finder 6.10 is the list of options for more specifically selecting multifield types:

Choose Single (1) to lock multi selection in the frontend. You can further choose to hide or show unselected entries.

Choose multi select OR (2) and the frontend creates a union.

Choose AND (3) and the frontend creates an intersection.

When working with dependencies and multiselect, multiselect should only look at the last dependent filter. Usind multiselect earlier can negatively impact usability.

Filter Positions (3)

The position of the filter group in the list can be adjusted via drag & drop.
