Editing Configurations - Managing Transactions

Select a channel and activate editing

First, select the channel for which you want to make the settings.

You will find the Edit Configuration button in the header of the FACT Finder user interface, right next to the channel selection (orange circle).

Transactions and Locks

Click the Edit Configuration button. The channel you are currently working in is now in edit mode and you have a transaction for this channel. You can recognize this by the pencil symbol next to the channel.

You can accept or reject the changes to the transaction at any time by clicking on the checkmark or cross.

To be able to edit a part of the configuration, you have to lock it for other users . To do this, simply click on the lock icon next to the configuration you want to edit. Locks are only displayed when the transaction is open and can only be set then.

If you want to edit only a part of a configuration, you can also lock individual sections.

By clicking on the pencil symbol within a configuration (orange box) you can edit it directly. This configuration is automatically locked for other users.

Confirm your changes

Click the lock icon and then click Save when all adjustments are complete. If this was your last lock, a window will open where you can close the transaction. The configuration is then released for editing by other users in the same channel.

Managing Transactions

Click the Manage Transaction button to the left of the channel selector (the cog icon marked with the light blue box) or the Manage Lock button while hovering over an active lock to open the popup, which gives an overview of your own locks and any changes made.

  • On the left side of the popup you can see a list of your own locks and open transactions. Within the transaction you can disable/enable the auto validation (orange box) if "Advanced Mode" is enabled.
  • The check mark (red box) next to a lock saves its changes and releases it, the "x", however, releases the lock or transaction and discards all changes.
    • In the right-hand area, the changes for the lock currently selected in the left-hand area are displayed.
The pen icon within the list redirects you to the page that contains the change.
    • In the header of the overview of the changes, there is a search box (yellow box) and an option to group the changes by channel, setting or not at all (dark green box).
  • When clicking on the edit button in the table header (light green box) the view changes to the corresponding mode and individual changes can be selected and removed or saved. This function is only available in "Advanced Mode".

Please note that changes can sometimes build on each other and result in validation errors which prevent a single change from being reset.

For example: A new thesaurus entry is added and then changed. The overview now shows two changes for this thesaurus entry. If the first, i.e. the addition of the entry, is to be removed, a validation error is thrown because the second change would work on a non-existent entry if the first change were to be discarded.

When you are working on any settings, it is set as read-only for other users until you click save or discard. Please remember to save your changes ASAP, as not to lock out other users.

NEU in FACT-Finder NG

The edit button is now located in the new FACT-Finder NG Header Bar.

Almost all of FACT-Finder's functions and settings are controlled via the Management Interface. These changes are only kept for the active channel, different Channels can have different configurations. It is not necessary to overwrite entries and settings in child channels first to edit them. The inheritance status is set automatically when a change is made.
